Piecemaking Coleus Art Quilt

My flower pots were overflowing with Coleus this year, 2003, we had much needed rain after our three year drought. I just couldn't resist sketching the glorious leaves, then making a quilt. I used this piece as my first assessment piece for my City & Guild Patchwork course. I started with a crazy quilt background in pastel shades mostly hand dyed fabric. Then I transferred coleus leaves onto the background. The trapunto leaves and spikes are appliquéd, hand dyed and commercial fabric. Lots of unmarked free motion quilting. Measures 22 by 28 inches.
