My flower pots were overflowing with Coleus this year, 2003, we had much needed rain after our three year drought. I just couldn't resist sketching the glorious leaves, then making a quilt. I used this piece as my first assessment piece for my City & Guild Patchwork course. I started with a crazy quilt background in pastel shades mostly hand dyed fabric. Then I transferred coleus leaves onto the background. The trapunto leaves and spikes are appliquéd, hand dyed and commercial fabric. Lots of unmarked free motion quilting. Measures 22 by 28 inches. Beads and crystals were blanket stitched to the binding. Click to see close up of quilting: Close Up.
