BJ Reed Horsepower: 16 Horses

This quilt fulfilled a requirement for a miniature quilt for my City & Guilds Diploma coursework. My research theme "The Horse" was explored. The plan was to use this piece as a decorate item along with an accent vintage red "Made in USA" bandana.

Faux suede was used as a background for the disperse dye paper cut horse motifs. Free motion and hand quilting enhanced the background. I took a leather tooling workshop recently and as a result was better able to craft the leather as part of the embossing in my research theme The natural leather was embossed, letters were painted, then the pieces were attached to the layers with silver studs. Additional trappings and leather lace was used for the hanging. The completed miniature measures 10 1/2 " by 11 1/2"
