We Made Our Mark 2008

My original contemporary abstract design
depicting Americans making their mark for change-
the 2008 vote for President Obama. I make a quilt to
commemorate these marks for change on Tuesday November 4th 2008.
We as a nation are hopeful for our piecing (peacing) together for this historical inauguration.

We American citizens are a tapestry of color today coming together in hope,
like shades and hues of cloth being pieced together with thread to form a beautiful quilt. The black and white MARKS are zigzag appliquéd commercial batik fabrics. The pieced blocks are made with colored hand dyed cottons. Hand cross stitching between the blocks using heavy black and white threads ties all blocks and colors together. Embellished with black and white beads forming words. Unmarked free motion machine stitching completes the quilting. This piece measures 47" by 47".
